Located two blocks from the Pacific, the project explores how a compact residential site can be opened to light without sacrificing privacy. A new addition is organized around a courtyard carved from the center of the property, creating an outdoor room that anchors the life of the house. This space mediates between interior and exterior, bringing daylight and air into the home while establishing a protected environment within the density of the neighborhood. The intervention expands the capacity of the historic craftsman for contemporary family life, creating a more open and light-filled living environment.
